2015 International Literature Festival Berlin

The 2015 internationales literaturfestival berlin - International Literature Festival Berlin - is quickly approaching. This is one of my favorite literary events in the city. This year's lineup is spectacular and I regret not being able to go to all of the events that call to me.

On 2 September, Ai Weiwei and Liao Yiwu will discuss culture in China with Wolfgang Herles at the Berlin Philharmonic. Weiwei will be a guest professor at the Akademie der K├╝nste in Berlin this autumn.

The official dates of the festival are 9-19 September 2015. As per tradition, the opening day will be celebrated around the city as Berlin Liest -- featuring literary readings at bookstores throughout Berlin. I had the pleasure of reading at one of these last year, in the Friedrichshain location of Berliner B├╝chertisch.

This year's festival will include events on the themes of graphic novels, the art of literary translation, and cities of the future. There will even be a "Translator Competition" between competing translators of an early work by Don DeLillo that has never before been translated into German.

The full program can be found here.
