Kelly Cherry Named New Poet Laureate of Virginia

Several years ago, I had the pleasure of seeing Kelly Cherry read as part of The Word Works' Cafe Muse series in Chevy Chase, Maryland. I picked up her book Rising Venus there, and later reviewed it for berniE-zine. Today, I found out that she was named the new Poet Laureate of Virginia, so I am posting a portion of my review below:
Cherry is a romantic at heart, and the ups and downs of her love life provide some good fodder for her poetry. But Cherry is even more brilliant with her wit and playfulness.
