Getting Around to Subjects

Last year, NaPoWriMo gave me the impetus I needed to finally write a poem about Petra, the German swan who fell in love with a swan boat. That NaPoWriMo draft later became the poem "Whatever Saves Us is Sacred," which is now circulating around the litmags... You can read an update on Petra's life here.

So, this NaPoWriMo has given me the shove to finally make use of an article I have been saving since August 2004 about a life-sized Christ found washed up on a sandbar in the middle of the Rio Grande. During Frida's nap today, I wrote quite a lengthy draft-jumble of a poem that I've titled "Jesus Christ of the Undocumented," after the nickname given to the crossless Christ.

What's inspiring your drafts this month?
